SBM MTW Mill Achieves Value-Added Utilization of Coal Gangue Waste

China is a major coal-producing country, and research shows that the production of 100 million tons of coal is accompanied by over 10 million tons of coal gangue. In Heilongjiang Province, which has abundant coal resources, there are currently 292 coal gangue hills with a storage volume of up to 576 million tons. The resulting issues, such as soil pollution, groundwater infiltration hazards, and ecosystem degradation, pose severe challenges to regional sustainable development.

The traditional method of disposing of coal gangue through landfilling not only occupies a large amount of valuable land resources but also poses serious environmental risks. Therefore, promoting the resource utilization of coal gangue and constructing a circular economy industrial chain is key to addressing the challenges posed by coal gangue in Heilongjiang.

Coal gangue contains over 80% silicon-aluminum oxides. After processing through modern grinding technology, it can be transformed into building materials such as sintered bricks, cement additives, expanded clay aggregates, and soil conditioners. This model of reduction, resource utilization, and high-value recycling provides an economically viable new pathway for managing the costly disposal of coal gangue hills and is also one of the important directions for Heilongjiang's goal of building a "waste-free city."

Coal Gangue Powder Grinding Line with Annual Production of 80,000 Tons

A large resource utilization enterprise in Heilongjiang Province is leveraging its coal gangue resource reserves to actively respond to the national "dual carbon strategy" and circular economy policies by planning to build an annual production line for 80,000 tons of coal gangue powder.

As a benchmark project for solid waste resource utilization, this project aims to achieve a perfect transformation of coal gangue from industrial solid waste to green building materials through high-end equipment, meeting the stringent standards for functional mineral raw materials in the new building materials industry.

Material: Coal Gangue

Technical teams tailor detailed grinding production line solutions for customers based on provided parameters such as coal gangue properties, output requirements, and product fineness. This includes equipment selection and configuration, complete production line processes, plant layout, power supply arrangements, and other critical details to ensure efficient operation and stable production.

Equipment Selection
The fine grinding of coal gangue is a critical process in production, as its processing efficiency and quality control directly impact the performance and economic value of the end product.

To address the moderate hardness and complex composition of coal gangue, Shanghai SBM employs the innovatively developed MTW European Version Trapezium Grinding Mill. Featuring advanced technologies such as integral gear transmission, internal thin-oil lubrication system, and arc-shaped air duct, this mill delivers high grinding efficiency, superior productivity, and low energy consumption, making it the ideal equipment choice for coal gangue powder processing.

1. Technological Iteration, Mature and Stable Equipment: With nearly 40 years of experience in mill manufacturing, SBM has upgraded four generations of grinding mills, leading in technology and ensuring stable equipment operation.
2. Special Grinding Design, High Grinding Efficiency: The use of curved scraper blade design increases the grinding working area of the material, enhancing grinding efficiency.
3. Integrated Gear Transmission, Reduced Energy Consumption: The integrated gear transmission and resistance-free inlet spiral design improve material flow and reduce energy consumption.
4. Thin Oil Lubrication, Extended Bearing Life: Both the main spindle transmission system and the fan transmission system use thin oil lubrication, which has lower lubrication resistance and lower oil temperature compared to traditional grease lubrication, effectively extending bearing life.
5. New Variable Frequency Classifier, High Product Precision: The new hanging cage-type classifier utilizes variable frequency control, allowing for adjustable and controllable fineness to meet various particle size requirements.

Coal Gangue Preparation Process Flow

Coal gangue is uniformly and continuously fed into the main grinding chamber by a variable frequency belt feeder. The ground coal gangue is then carried by the airflow from the fan to the classifier. Under the action of the analyzer, coal gangue powder that does not meet the fineness requirements falls back into the grinding chamber for regrinding, while qualified powder is transported through pipes with the airflow into the cyclone powder collector for separation and collection. The finished coal gangue powder is discharged through the discharge device. The separated airflow then enters the fan through the return air duct at the top of the cyclone powder collector. This production system operates under negative pressure and closed conditions, equipped with a pulse dust collector to prevent dust overflow, complying with national environmental protection standards.

To support the long-term operation of clients, SBM has established a digital twin system for predictive maintenance and launched spare parts inventory management services to ensure that critical components are delivered within 48 hours. Additionally, through the annual "Quality China Tour" event, equipment inspections are conducted, and a full lifecycle file is established, creating a comprehensive service loop that includes "solution design - equipment manufacturing - installation and commissioning - operation and maintenance upgrades."

The implementation of the coal gangue grinding project in Heilongjiang marks SBM's strategic upgrade from an "equipment supplier" to a "circular economy service provider." In the future, SBM will continue to promote the transformation of coal gangue from an "environmental burden" to an "economic resource" with the philosophy of "precision manufacturing." This will contribute to the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China and the achievement of the "dual carbon" goals, showcasing SBM's commitment to these efforts.
